Ripple uses three types of IDs to manage participants in studies:
-
Global ID:
- A unique hash/ID assigned globally to each participant across all studies.
- Appears in the registry and on participant profile pages in every study.
- Locked and unchangeable after assignment, except through the import tool, which allows updates by matching participants via First Name, Last Name, and Birthdate, and providing a new Global ID.
-
Custom ID:
- A study-specific alphanumeric ID to identify participants within a single study.
- Examples: numbering participants sequentially (e.g., 1, 2, 3) or grouping them (e.g., 1001, 2002).
- The same Custom ID can be reused in different studies but cannot be duplicated within the same study (Ripple will warn you).
-
Family ID:
- A Family ID used to link participants as a family.
- Participants with the same Family ID are connected in their profiles under a "Family" section.
- Displays shared family details such as names, studies, genders, and current ages.
These ID types ensure streamlined participant organization and tracking across studies and profiles.
